Samantha Grig Studio

I create abstract artwork that invites slow looking.

Layers of colour, mark and pattern.

Landscapes without a map. Plants without a plan.

I am Samantha, an artist with a textile background, based in Eaglescliffe in the UK. I am neurodivergent and my practice is a steady place that helps me breathe. I hope my work offers that same stillness and joy to you.

What I make

I create original artworks on heavyweight watercolour paper and limited prints in A5 and A4. I often work in small series that sit together as a quiet story.

How I work

I build pieces in layers using acrylic inks and fine liner pens. I move slowly. I notice shape, rhythm and repeat. My textile training shows up in pattern, in the stitched feeling of marks, and in the way surfaces hold together. I like the mix of control and accident. Nothing is rushed. Everything has room to become.

Why I make

Art is how I return to myself. When the world is loud, I go to colour and line and let my hands move. Making gives me a way to process what I cannot always put into words. It helps me settle my mind and notice the small, honest moments that hold a day together.

I am drawn to edges and in between places. Field borders. Garden corners. The drift of weather. My work is less about a perfect scene and more about the feeling of being there. I follow marks the way you might follow a path, one step at a time, trusting that something true will appear.

I share my art because connection matters. You do not need to recognise a plant or a place to feel something real. If a piece gives you a breath, a pause, or a sense of quiet joy, then it has done its work.

If you have a question about a piece, I am happy to help. Email: samantha@samanthajhill.co.uk
